John (Hi Seth!),

I was able to pull things into wordpress by pulling in my Google Atom feed, converting that to XML, splitting it and importing to wordpress. The links were stripped and the full text was imported, so it's required a little surfing while watching tv to relink everything, but everything's there.

If you want my method, let me know. Seth's is definitely more complete and smooth, but mine will work in a pinch.

No new updates recently -- I got it hooked up to do what I needed and then got sucked back into the life of a school administrator. The code that's posted now is after (the other) John and I traded comments. It should compile and work (at least, if you download the <a href="http://battis.net/sandbox/scripts/google_reader_to_wordpress.php.zip" rel="nofollow">linked zip file</a>, rather than copying and pasting the source code... I haven't dug into how my blog pretty prints source code at all.)

Any updates on your project?

I'm sharing what I learn in a blog post:

I've also started following your feed. Thanks!

Seth,

Thanks again. I've gotten as far as getting this in the course catalog! Do you have a syllabus you can send me so I can see what's practical for coverage topics and blurb for the catalog? I'm looking at a semester long class - if that's consistent with your class - the other half year I'm shooting for an intro to electronics (circuit design) class.

Best of luck! Happily, you can probably get a lot of the software for free (yay for open source) or donated.

Thanks for the help! Now the tricky part is selling this course and a basic electronic circuit design class to my administrators during these diminished budgetary times!!! Time to grant hunt...

John, I think the problem is that Wordpress is cleaning up "invalid HTML tags" in the PHP code as it posts embedded. I used to have a fantastic source code formatter for WordPress 1.x that worked a lot better. Clearly I need to re-investigate that.

Meanwhile, I'll post the file itself as an attachment to the post. Just a sec.

Seth,

Thanks for putting this together - I've been searching for a home for my shared items.

I copied your code, dropped it in a file "script.php" and then loaded that along with my shared items json to my wordpress/php enabled directory.

My server threw the following error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /script.php on line 40

Any chance there's a missing semicolon or backslash?

Thanks again!
John

Corey, we used the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/iOS-Programming-Ranch-Guide-Guides/dp/0321773772/" rel="nofollow">The Big Nerd Ranch's iPhone Programming Guide</a> -- after auditioning several other texts along the way. The students and I decided that we liked Conway and Hillegass' explanations, and we found that we could bounce around through the chapters and cobble together the knowledge we needed for any given project pretty quickly. Along the way, we put together <a href="http://www.diigo.com/user/Battis/ms1017" rel="nofollow">a short list of useful reference sites on Diigo</a> (it's a bit dated now, since Xcode 4 has come out).
